How to use this kit

Replace [your link] with your personal affiliate link from the partner portal. Say plainly that you earn a commission, for example “I earn a commission if you subscribe”, and keep that line when you edit. On LinkedIn, put the link in the first comment, because LinkedIn often shows posts that contain links to fewer people. Edit anything so it sounds like you, but keep the facts accurate. The facts are listed further down this page.

LinkedIn post for recruiters: why I tell candidates to tailor their resume to each job

I read a lot of resumes. The ones that get a call usually have one thing in common: they look like they were written for this job.

That doesn’t mean a rewrite from scratch. It means the same honest experience, described in the words the job post uses. If the post says “stakeholder management” and your resume says “worked with other teams”, you look like a weaker match on paper than you are in real life.

It matters twice. The applicant tracking system (ATS) stores your resume and lets a recruiter search it, so the words in it decide whether you turn up. Then a person skims it and decides quickly whether it fits.

The tool I point candidates to is JobTailor. It scores a resume against the job post, shows the keywords that are missing, and suggests edits you accept or reject line by line. It never invents experience, and that’s the rule I care about most. A resume that stretches the truth falls apart in the interview.

It’s free to start. Link in the first comment, and I earn a commission if you subscribe.

LinkedIn post for career coaches: the tool I give clients between sessions

The most useful thing I give clients isn’t a template. It’s a tool they can use between our sessions.

In session we work on the story: what you’ve done, what you want next, how to say it plainly. Then you go home and have to apply to ten roles, and the good habits slip.

So I point my clients to JobTailor. They paste a job post, see how well their resume matches it, and get suggested edits to their bullets, summary and skills. Every change shows up as a tracked change they accept or reject, so it stays their story, in their words.

It never invents experience. No fake titles, tools or numbers. That’s the line I hold with every client, and it’s why I’m comfortable recommending it.

There’s a free plan, plus a free ATS checker and a free job tracker to keep the whole search in one place.

LinkedIn post for talent sourcers and talent partners: what the ATS and the hiring manager actually see

Candidates often ask me what the ATS “sees”. Here’s the honest answer from the recruiting side.

In many setups, the ATS stores the resume, reads the text and lets a recruiter search and filter. If your resume doesn’t contain the words we search for, you’re harder to find. That’s the whole mystery.

The hiring manager sees something different: a resume they skim quickly, looking for proof that you’ve done this kind of work.

Both are looking for the language and the evidence of the job in the post. A generic resume gives neither of them much to hold on to.

A free ATS checker, like the one from JobTailor, scores your resume against a job post and lists the keywords you’re missing. Use that list as a prompt, and add a keyword only where it’s true for you. JobTailor never invents experience, and every suggested change is yours to accept or reject.

Wide latitude on style, tight rules on the things that would mislead people or hurt the brand.

  • Don't: promise interviews, jobs or any other result. JobTailor helps a resume match a job better, and that is all.
  • Don't: say it “beats” or “tricks” the ATS. It helps candidates describe real experience in the language of the job.
  • Don't: invent discounts or coupon codes. If you want a real promo code for your audience, ask us and we’ll look at it.
  • Don't: bid on “JobTailor” or close variants in paid search.
  • Don't: use JobTailor in a domain name or a social handle.
