What is the best job application autofill tool?

There is no single best job application autofill tool, because tools differ in what they do around the form. Simplify's free Copilot reaches the most career sites; Simplify says more than 100,000. Huntr includes unlimited autofill on its free plan, inside a job tracker. JobTailor fills Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby and SmartRecruiters forms, attaches the resume it tailored for that job, and never submits for you.

Pick by the job you want done. For free autofill on the widest set of sites, start with Simplify. For autofill plus a tracker, try Huntr. For a resume rewritten for each posting before the form is filled, with you pressing Submit, use JobTailor. Prices and limits for each are in the comparison table below.

Typing a name and email saves a minute. The time goes on the rest: uploading the right resume, picking work authorization from yet another dropdown, and retyping screening answers you gave last week. That is the part autofill is for.

What JobTailor autofills on an application form

Click Fill this page and these fields are filled from your resume and your Application profile.

Contact details

Name, email, phone, links and location, taken from your resume and Application profile, so you stop retyping them on every form.

Your resume file

Uploads your resume PDF. If you tailored a resume for this job first, the tailored PDF is attached instead of your base file.

Cover letter

Fills a cover letter text box or uploads your cover letter as a PDF, whichever the form asks for.

Work authorization and sponsorship

Answers 'Are you legally authorized to work here?' and 'Will you require sponsorship?' from the answers you saved once, including work authorization by country.

Dropdowns of every kind

Native selects, radio buttons and searchable React-Select style dropdowns, the type-to-filter menus that many modern application forms use.

Screening questions

Notice period, salary expectations and relocation come from your Application profile. Open questions get a draft written only from facts on your resume, which you can edit.

What autofill never does

These limits are built in. They are not settings you have to remember to switch on.

  • Never submits: you read the page and press Submit yourself, every time.
  • Never ticks consent boxes: privacy notices, terms, 'I agree' statements, signatures and CAPTCHAs are left for you.
  • Never makes up an answer: open answers draw only on facts in your resume. A field it cannot answer stays empty and is counted in the result summary as needing you.
  • Never guesses demographic answers: gender, ethnicity, veteran and disability questions are filled only from answers you saved yourself, matched to the form's wording. If you saved none, they stay blank.
  • Never overwrites what you typed: Fill this page skips any field that already has a value.
  • Never acts until you click: opening an application form fills nothing. You choose the whole page or a single field.

How the Chrome extension autofills job applications

One setup step, then each application takes a click and a read-through.

  1. Install the extension

Add JobTailor to Chrome or Edge, pin it, and sign in with Google or email. Add your resume as a PDF, DOCX or TXT file, or paste the text.

  2. Fill in your Application profile once

On jobtailor.app, answer what every form asks: address, work authorization by country, start date, notice period, salary expectations and links. Add self-identification answers only if you want them used.

  3. Optional: tailor your resume for the job

Tailor the resume to the posting on the page. It uses one tailored resume from your monthly allowance, and that tailored PDF is what gets uploaded in the next step.

  4. Open the application and fill it

Click Fill this page in the side panel, or click the Fill with JobTailor chip on any single field. Nothing is filled until you click.

  5. Review, fix and submit yourself

The result tells you how many fields were filled, how many need you, and how many consent or sensitive questions were left for you. Check every answer, then press Submit.

The tailored resume for that job is attached automatically

Filling a form with the same resume every time is the quick option. Matching the resume to the posting is the one that answers what the employer asked for. If you tailored a resume for this job first, Fill this page uploads that tailored PDF instead of your base file. If you did not, it uploads your base resume.

Tailoring reorders and rewrites what is already on your resume for the job description. It never invents employers, job titles, dates, credentials, tools or metrics, and you accept or reject each change. The Free plan includes 2 tailored resumes a month, Pro is $2.99 a month for 50, and Max is $9.99 a month for 300.

Autofill itself is included on every plan, including Free. Tailoring is optional: without it, Fill this page still works and uploads your base resume, so you can use the two features together or separately. Tailoring draws on your monthly allowance, so on the Free plan it makes sense to save it for the jobs you care most about.

Workday autofill, Greenhouse autofill and other supported forms

JobTailor's autofill is built for employers' own application forms. Here is what to expect on each.

Application systemWhat to expect
GreenhouseUsually one page with contact fields, a resume upload and the employer's own questions. Fill this page covers them in one pass.
LeverUsually one page with a resume upload, links and additional questions. Dropdowns and radio buttons are matched to your saved answers.
WorkdaySeveral pages, and usually an employer account first, which you create yourself. Click Fill this page on each step, then review before the final submit.
AshbyUsually one page with the employer's custom questions. Searchable dropdowns are filled by typing and picking the matching option.
SmartRecruitersStandard contact, resume and screening fields are filled the same way. Review any employer-specific questions.
Other career sitesMost standard forms work. Some custom forms use unusual widgets and need a manual touch; the result summary counts what it could not fill.
LinkedIn Easy ApplyNot covered by autofill yet. Tailor the resume, download the PDF and attach it in the Easy Apply flow.

Where you still do the work

Autofill does not create employer accounts, solve CAPTCHAs, sign for you or tick consent boxes. Custom forms with unusual widgets may need a manual touch, and the result summary shows which fields it could not fill. Treat it as typing help with a review step, not a way to apply without reading.

Which job application autofill should you pick?

Match the tool to your bottleneck.

  • Pick Simplify if you want free autofill on the widest range of career sites, or an Autopilot that submits for you and you are happy to skip the review.
  • Pick Huntr if you want a tracker as your home base, with unlimited autofill on the free plan.
  • Pick JobTailor if you want a resume tailored to each posting, every change shown for approval, and a form that is filled but never submitted. Pro starts at $2.99 a month.
  • JobTailor's limits: it is a newer product, autofill covers 50+ job boards and career sites rather than the 100,000+ Simplify claims, and it works in Chrome and Edge only.

Why review before you submit matters

An application is a statement in your name. Many forms ask whether you are authorized to work in the country and whether you will need sponsorship, and many end with a line saying your answers are true and complete. A wrong tick on a work-authorization dropdown can end an application, and you are the one who should see it first.

Auto-submit tools such as Simplify's paid Autopilot trade that review step for speed: they submit supported applications without one. That suits some people applying to a very large number of roles. If you want to read the answers and the attached resume first, use a tool that stops at the form. JobTailor does, and so does Simplify's free Copilot.

Reviewing is quick once the typing is done. Check the dropdowns, the screening answers and the name of the attached resume file. If a field is wrong, fix it by hand or click the chip on that one field to fill it again, then submit.

Frequently asked questions

Is job application autofill safe?

It is as safe as the permissions you give it. JobTailor fills a form only after you click, never submits, never ticks consent boxes and leaves self-identification questions blank unless you saved answers. Your resume text goes to our AI provider only to generate results, and we do not share it with recruiters or employers. Read every answer before you submit.

Does JobTailor autofill work on Workday?

Yes. Workday applications run over several pages and usually ask you to create an account on the employer's site first, which you do yourself. Then click Fill this page on each step. It fills contact details, your resume, work authorization, dropdowns and screening answers, and leaves consent checkboxes for you.

Will employers know I used autofill?

Employers see the submitted application. JobTailor fills the same fields you would type into and never submits anything, so you review and send each application yourself. We cannot speak for every employer's systems, so treat autofill as a typing shortcut and check that every answer is true before you press Submit.

Does autofill apply to jobs for me?

No. JobTailor fills the form and stops. It never presses Submit, so every application is sent by you after you review it. Tools that submit for you exist, such as Simplify's paid Autopilot, but JobTailor does not offer one. That keeps you in control of every answer sent in your name.

Is JobTailor's autofill free?

Yes. Autofill is included on every plan, including Free. Tailoring a resume for the job uses your monthly allowance: 2 tailored resumes on Free, 50 on Pro ($2.99 a month) and 300 on Max ($9.99 a month). The extension works in Chrome and Edge, and you can cancel a paid plan at any time.

What is the best job application autofill extension?

It depends on the job you need done. Simplify's free Copilot claims the widest coverage, Huntr's free plan has unlimited autofill and a tracker, and JobTailor fills the form and attaches a resume tailored to that job, with Submit left to you. Compare them in the table above and test one real application.

Which forms need a manual touch?

Standard Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby and SmartRecruiters forms work, as do most standard career-site forms. Some custom forms use unusual widgets, and LinkedIn Easy Apply is not covered yet. After each fill, the result summary shows how many fields it could not fill, so you know exactly what to finish by hand.

Fill the next application in one click, then read it before you send

Free on every plan. Autofill never submits, never ticks consent boxes and never makes up an answer.
